A rise in a hormone level and a change you can feel are different questions.

A question to carry

What adult study measured the benefit being discussed, and what did it fail to show?

Put it in my notebook ↘

A learning path. No treatment steps.

Ask what a study measured before reading its result. Was it a blood test, body fat, sleep or something else? Then ask whether that is the change you are hoping for.

What was studied in older adults

The adult studies were small: each enrolled between 10 and 19 people and ran for 2 to 16 weeks. They studied sermorelin or a closely related version.

The studies found higher levels of growth hormone, a chemical message in the body. In some studies, blood tests also showed more of a related body signal, IGF-1. Higher levels did not mean less body fat: the studies measuring fat found no change, in the research reviewed as of September 28, 2026.

The Vittone study reported no change in weight, muscle or fat measures in its 11 older men over 6 weeks.

The Khorram study used a changed version of the medicine rather than sermorelin itself. Sleep quality did not change during its 16-week treatment period.

Did the study measure the change I want?

Keep the result and its limits on the same plate.

Why the children’s research is a separate shelf

The main growth study started with 110 children whose doctors had found a growth hormone shortage. The published growth results covered 86 of them, rather than all 110, in the Thorner trial report. No children were assigned to a separate comparison group. Such a group would let researchers compare sermorelin with another treatment or with no treatment.

That missing comparison makes it harder to tell how much of a change was due to the medicine.

Ask for adult evidence when the offer is for an adult. A result about children’s growth leaves your own question unanswered.

A useful reply names the uncertainty

Ask which result supports the proposed use. Ask how closely the study matches the product, the people and the goal being discussed. An answer can include uncertainty and still be useful.
